Yuletide Village Street

I had the idea of creating a street of houses but it took me a little while to work out the size and type of card fold I wanted to create it on.

The key to this simple fun fold is lining up the images, in this case the foreground trees that will meet when the card is closed.

It was by no means a quick card to make, there was a lot of masking, the Stampin’ Up! Masking paper and my trusty Paper Snips made the job so much easier. One of my ideas didn’t quite work out but it was worth a try and easily overcome.

So to start I used my grid paper to mark where the folds would be and stamped the two trees that everything else would need to work around.

The street scene was built up by stamping the houses and then masking to stamp trees and the stone walls around. The trees and walls also needed to be masked to add further trees behind. Then the whole scene was masked to add the sky using blending brushes.

I cut a piece of masking tape to cover an area that can be written on and would be hidden when the card is shut. Unfortunately, possible because of the stitched edge, it didn’t stick well enough and the colour crept in underneath.

A simple fix was to die cut a new shape and stick it over my mistake. I managed to cut it without the hole by partially die cutting then flipping the die around to cut the other side.

The colours I used for the sky were Night of Navy at the top, then Blueberry Bushel and finally Balmy Blue above the houses. The stamped elements have been coloured with Stampin' Blends.

Greetings of the Season provides the greeting for the front and the label it sits on. A silver and white bow finishes the card off nicely.

Yuletide Village is absolutely my stampset of choice from the Winter mini catalogue and I think lots of other crafters agree.
