The make

All the stamps in Storybook Garden Patch have corresponding dies, and it would have been much easier to stamp and die cut them, but today I decided to create a single layer scene by masking.

I started by stamping the arrangement I wanted onto a very used piece of grid paper, not worrying about the images overlapping each other. Then I worked out foreground to background so I knew the order to stamp and where to mask.

My first stamp was the strawberries in the middle of the pots. I then masked these and stamped more strawberries to the left and right. The scene was gradually built up by masking where necessary and stamping the extra elements, the last one being the terracotta pots.

It's a slow process and requires very careful fussy cutting of the masks but so worth it when you peel off and reveal the image underneath.

Colouring is definitely the fun bit and Stampin' Blends are a joy to use.

  • Strawberries - Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Petal Pink

  • Leaves - Granny Apple Green, Old Olive

  • Watering Can - Smoky Slate, Gray Granite, Crumb Cake

  • Terracotta Pots - Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie, Peach Pie

I used the pebble stamp from Friendly Seagulls (a Saleabration stamp set free with a £55 spend until the end of February) to add some stones/earth below the pots, stamped in Crumb Cake.

Blending brushes are perfect for adding background colour to a scene like this one. Crumb Cake at the bottom, then Granny Apple Green and finally Balmy Blue.

I've used a deckled rectange die to cut the image panel but just before I did, I stamped some seagulls and Hey Friend, both from Friendly Seagulls. This was then layered onto Cherry Cobbler, cut just a tiny bit larger than the deckled rectangle and then onto lovely checkered patterned paper from Timeless Plaid.
