Iconic Imagery Celebrate

Today’s card is for a Global Design Project CASE the designer challenge #gdp460 and out comes my Iconic Imagery bundle once again.

The designer we are CASEing is Susan Wong and this is her beautiful card. I love the watercolour background and definitely wanted to incorporate that into my design.

I had to be a bit creative with the watercolour effect as I had run out of watercolour paper and as regular paper isn’t very absorbent, it can’t handle too much wet.

I used a large acrylic block and using an ink pad, put a dab of colour on and then a drop of water from a water painter. I moved the block around a bit to mix with the ink and spread out a little then put the inky surface of the block on my paper.

I tried using dots of ink from refill bottles (too much ink), a water spray bottle (too much fine splatter), all three colours at the same time (too much blended together). So one colour at a time, a little ink and a tiny amount of water got the best results.

The colours used are Berry Burst, Azure Afternoon and Daffodil Delight with Bubble Bath and Balmy Blue added for the stamped elements.

I cheated with the candles, stamped them, die cut them and then cut them in half to make it look like they are much longer.

I stamped and then fussy cut the word Celebrate. As I was layering it onto black, I used a black fine liner to colour in the ‘l’, ‘b’ and between ‘a’ and ‘t’ loops, much easier than trying to cut those little bits out.

How cute are the tiny starts and hearts, the die very helpfully cuts out a small row of each so I used the card pieces they were cut from on the card and added some of the little die cut shapes in the way I would normally use gems.

I’m so please with how this one turned out, I love the vibrant colours contrasted with black.

The Iconic Imagery bundle is an Online Exclusive so won’t be found in the paper catalogue. If you wanted to take a closer look, you can do so by clicking on the product link below.
